And just to prove that there will be more to this blog than a never ending lineup of crochet and knitting here is the result of two weekends spent attending a metal jewellery making course at Puhoi, north of Auckland city.
I made the silver ring on the first weekend (learning first how to saw and work with metal on the much more difficult brass) and went back for the second weekend with a long list of techniques I wanted to concentrate on learning over the two days...so while I ended up with the silver bangle (silver wire soldered, shaped and joined into a bangle) the second weekend, the rest of the work I came back with was samples of different types of riveting, dapping, joining metal using concentrated heating (some of the samples not shown) and the little picture in brass which used sawing, drilling, polishing and a few other skills.
It was great learning the new techniques and added another (possibly more interesting and less able to be copied) element to the jewellery making I was undertaking commissions for. I'd like to widen this exploration to working with metal and wood together ... and possibly to using wood and ink as well.
