Crazy crochet ball

While waiting to get the wool for the throw in the last post I had read about a crochet ball which demonstrated an interesting mathematical concept.... While not really being fussed abut  the concept at first the thought of creating a really unusual baby (or as I've found, adult) toy did appeal. The concept is that after creating the foundation you then simply do two double crochet into every double crochet on the previous round. - it is really a continuous spiral  with each round being double the one before.
So... the pictured ball was made with 1 ball of white courtelle dk.. and the last 'round' was a complete ball of dk blue courtelle... of course using the mathematical concept the last round has the sum total of the stitches which the white took up (the last round was over 1570 stitches!).
Over exposure shows the details better
I've also made smaller ones (not a complete ball) in variegated sock wool which make great brooches when attached to clothes with a safety pin... one day I'll find some brooch backs and attach them properly... or they could look striking done in one colour with a sparkly or contrast button on the middle (it does look a little like a rather exotic flower)... I'll post some photos of them later.
